Gunfire Erupts at Howe Park Leaves 4 People Shot in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade

Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are working a shooting incident that unfolded Saturday evening at Howe Park as authorities get more info were shutting down a large unauthorized gathering of hundreds of attendees.

Background

Law enforcement were first dispatched to Howe Community Park at approximately 6:30 Saturday evening after being notified of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Following that, a follow-up call was made about a reported physical confrontation occurring within the park grounds.

Aerial units scanned the area from the air but was unable to locate the reported altercation. However, it was apparent that a massive group had gathered without authorization without permission.

The Shooting Itself

Officers started clearing the unauthorized gathering by surrounding the park and using their vehicle PA systems ordering attendees to leave immediately. About 15 minutes were allotted for people to comply.

At the height of the dispersal effort that between 20 and 25 rounds cut through the air. The sudden gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies immediately began looking for those injured.

Those Who Were Hit

Ultimately, four people were discovered with shooting injuries. Those injured — comprising three men and one woman each apparently in their early to late twenties — were rushed to Sacramento area hospitals. Doctors and nurses noted that two victims were in serious condition, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one suffered minor injuries. In a positive development, all four victims survived and were stable.

Sacramento Metro Fire assisted at the location and assisted with medical triage those with gunshot wounds at the scene.

The Investigation

The primary shooting scene was determined to have happened along the Cottage Way corridor adjacent to the Home Depot store at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Detectives recovered more spent casings scattered along Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were noted in the iron fence adjacent to the Home Depot. These findings indicated that a second shooter had been firing southward from along Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot. That Home Depot location was placed on lockdown as a precaution. CSI investigators and detectives stayed at the location through the early morning hours.

Suspect Information

Reports confirmed through scanner monitoring confirmed that a Kia was pulled over in an area within Solano County. Four suspects were held for questioning. Sacramento law enforcement were dispatched to Solano County to pick up those detained for questioning. Video evidence revealed that two shooters had been involved.
